Overview of B-FAST operations in 2008

May 2008, earthquake in the Chinese province of Sichuan

At the request of the Chinese authorities, Belgium send the necessary equipment to Chengdu to set up a field hospital and a tent camp. The supplies included 1000 tents, plastic tarpaulin covers, blankets, kitchen utensils, a sanitary component (toilets and lavatories) as well as a medical post equipped to  care for 10,000 people for 3 months.

A team of 12 B-FAST experts was dispatched to the disaster area to help with the installation, the training of the staff appointed by the Chinese authorities and the handing over of the equipment.

When Myanmar was struck by cyclone Nargis in May 2008, B-FAST sent two of its staff members along with the supply of a mobile water treatment installation and a number of medical emergency kits.
